LatinPost: Danny Trejo & Briana Evigan Join Cast of EL Rey Network’s ‘From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’

Danny Trejo is teaming up with maverick filmmaker Robert Rodriguez once again — a treat for fans of the dynamic duo’s collaborations — and he’s going to regulate in the most sinister of ways!

This week, El Rey Network announced that Trejo, who’s most known for his roles in “Machete,” and “Machete Kills,” as well as Briana Evigan, who’s most known for her lead role in “Step Up 2,” have joined the sophomore season of Rodriguez’s “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.”

Many know the fierce and rugged Trejo, from his role as “Razor Charlie,” in the “From Dusk Till Dawn” film franchise. Now, for the TV series, he will take on the role of “‘The Regulator,’ “a horrifying agent of evil who has been summoned to perform a deadly errand.”

Evigan has joined as Sonja — “an American expatriate working as a tattoo artist in a Mexican Mercado — who also has a sideline forging papers and passports out of her back room.”

Also a professional dancer, Evigan has appeared in music videos for Linkin Park, Flo Rida, T-Pain and Enrique Iglesias.

Trejo has made his mark in the entertainment biz, but he got off to a rough start in his personal life. After being incarcerated, he turned his life around and paid it forward by helping young people battle drug addiction as well as pursued acting and producing.

He has starred in impressive line-up of films including: “Desperado”; “Heat”; the “From Dusk Till Dawn” film series; “Con Air”; “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”; the “Spy Kids” movies; “Grindhouse”; “Dead In Tombstone”; and “Muppets Most Wanted.”

Recently, Trejo has landed more TV gigs including his first series regular role on the FX show “Saint George,” as well as an appearance on “NCIS: Los Angeles.”  He has had recurring roles on “Sons of Anarchy” and “King of the Hill,” and has appeared on episodes of “Franklin & Bash,” “Bones,” “Modern Family,” and “Breaking Bad.”

Trejo is also the voice of “Skeleton Luis” in Jorge Gutierrez and Guillermo del Toro’s animated film “The Book Of Life.”  He has also voiced characters for Cartoon Network’s “Young Justice” and “The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange.” Currently, he can be seen in the Super Clio Award-winning Snickers commercial where he plays the blonde high school student, Marcia Brady.

Returning to Season 2 includes: D.J. Cotrona (“Dear John”, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation”); Zane Holtz (“Holes,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”); Jesse Garcia (“Quinceañera,” “Sons of Anarchy”); Madison Davenport (“Noah,” “Shameless”); and Brandon Soo Hoo (“Tropic Thunder,” “Ender’s Game,” “Incredible Crew”).

What can “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” fans expect this season?

“Season Two explores a new chapter in this supernatural crime saga that travels from Mexico to the edgy, tricked-out Texas of Robert Rodriguez. It also deepens and complicates the core relationships between the characters, while adding new faces and new dynamics,” according to El Rey Network.

“Season Two begins with our characters in their separate worlds — Santanico ([Eiza] Gonzalez) and Richie (Holtz) are outside Houston, living like Bonnie and Clyde; Seth and Kate (Madison Davenport) are scraping by South of the Border; and Freddie Gonzalez (Jessie Garcia) is protecting his wife and young daughter in a Houston suburb.  And Carlos Madrigal ([Wilmer] Valderrama) and Scott Fuller (Brandon Soo-Hoo) emerge from the Titty Twister, changed men. They will all come together once again — this time facing off against an even bigger threat.”

Briana heads for ‘Love is All you Need’

Step Up 5‘s Briana Evigan and Hannah Montana‘s Emily Osment are gearing up for Love Is All You Need?, an indie drama with a twist inspired by the challenges faced by LGBT youth. Directed by Kim Rocco Shields and co-written by Shields and David Tillman, the provocative drama is set in a world where being gay is the norm and heterosexual persons are bullied and is based on Shields’ controversial award-winning 2011 short film of the same name.

Shields’ 2011 short starred Lexi DiBennedetto as a young girl who is shunned for being heterosexual and attempts to commit suicide after enduring intolerant treatment from bigoted friends and family; it scored over 45 million YouTube views.

The feature version will follow similar themes focusing on different characters, including Evigan as a female star college quarterback named Jude who strikes up a forbidden romance with a male journalist. Osment will play Kelly, Jude’s girlfriend. The Walking Dead‘s Kyla Kennedy also stars as an 11-year-old girl who is bullied for having a crush on a boy at school.

DA MAN: Briana Evigan Feature

DANCE WITH LOVE. Briana Evigan is almost too good to be true. The young actress reminds one of the girl every boy had a crush on in high school, and the feeling of infatuation, although one might like to think that he’d outgrown it, still persists upon first meeting Evigan.

The beautiful brunette is drop-dead-gorgeous, with a bright smile and a pair of arresting eyes. Yet, just when one would assume that a girl so beautiful would be out of reach and intimidating, she draws you in with her easy manner and a quirky sense of humor.

The actress with a girl-next- door allure possesses a certain lighthearted nature that is rarely found in many who work in her field. Success, for many actors, is a double-edged sword that could turn any bright-eyed girl to a ruthless starlet. But, in Evigan’s case, the actress rides the wave of her success like a veteran surfer gliding smoothly on the perilous wave, all while preserving her sweet, quirky nature. With the same candor and endearing quirk that put moviegoers in a spell, Evigan opens up about scoring the role of Andie West in the “Step Up” franchise, expressing her thoughts in a song and the explosive chemistry with her co-star Ryan Guzman.

DA MAN: Hi Briana, we’re so excited for your new movie! one of the first times we’ve seen you was in “Step up 2: the Streets” and you’re also starring in this summer’s “Step up: all in.” how did you first get involved with the franchise?
Briana Evigan: I got involved in the franchise by going to an audition through my dance agents. I got a callback when I was in Hawaii and did not want to come home—I have been to so many unsuccessful callbacks, and I figured like all the others, this job was not mine. Then I came home and got a phone call from  the film’s director, Jon Chu, who messed with me by making me think i didn’t get it. It felt like the happiest day of my life when i got the part. I’ve been so blessed to work for the past seven years on other projects and to be coming back to start in “Step Up: All In” with the lead actor Ryan Guzman and all the incredible returning cast members.

JoBLO: Hot Or Not

Yesterday, Briana was featured in JoBlo’s Hot Or Not Feature.  This is what they had to say about her:

Seems as if everyone’s on board with the hotness of Ellie Kemper, who got mostly all positive, babe-next-door comments last week. Now that the time in the summer of 2014 has arrived for me, meaning the weekend that the next STEP UP movie is getting released, I can rest easy that the season has been good. Will its star receive as much praise from you?

2008 was the first time that the real life daughter of one of “My Two Dads” got a movie role. Briana, daughter of Greg Evigan, had been solely a dancer with only a couple of short film appearances when she was cast in STEP UP 2: THE STREETS. Between that instant charm she had on screen, her slick dancing and her sensational tummy, I was won over pretty much instantly.

Sadly, Briana hasn’t been able to get too much off the ground with her acting career, enjoying mostly a smattering of crappy horror flicks (the SORORITY ROW reboot, anyone? the crappy “sequel” to DONNIE DARKO, S. DARKO?) that she doesn’t even get nekkid in. She’s persisting and thankfully she’s returning to my guilty pleasure enterprise with STEP UP: ALL IN.

My response to the Hot or Not question is a total duh. Of course I think Briana is a certifiable babe. Great face (made even more adorable when she graces the camera with one of her full-on smiles), insane body and a casual girl’s girl personality. But this isn’t all about what I think.
